I have organized many of my paintings utilizing two seemingly contradictory visual systems: one that creates the illusion of three-dimensional space through perspective, overlapping and size diminution, and another that emphasizes the planar, two-dimensional quality of the canvas through pattern, directional movement, rhythmic line and modular spatial relationships.
This tug of war, between three and two-dimensionality, exists in my work. Geometric abstraction has been coupled with an architectural realism, resulting in an engineered abstraction.
